Troy is the Bay of Plenty Regional Council Chair in Lake and Freshwater Sciences at the University of Waikato and leader of the LERNZ research group. In the role of Chair, Troy plans to focus on land-to-water nutrient management at catchment scales, and BOPRC's vision of a mountains-to-the-sea research programme. His initial goals are to reaffirm the strong relationships with the community and iwi around Rotorua, and to ensure ongoing excellence in research on the Rotorua Te Arawa Lakes. Troy specialises in understanding the flow of nutrients, water and carbon through terrestrial ecosystems and resulting impacts in freshwater. He spent the last decade at GNS Science's National Isotope Centre, ensuring New Zealand has access to challenging isotope techniques.
