WHAT IS LERNZ

The Lake Ecosystem Research New Zealand (LERNZ) programme is a series of projects that aim to understand how lakes respond to pressure and develop ways to manage and restore lakes. Our current research focus is:

  • In-lake models and technology for enhancing capability to manage environmental limits
  • Improved cost-effective real-time in-lake monitoring to support predictions
  • Development of remote sensing technologies for improved spatial water quality monitoring
  • Prioritising invasive species interventions to maintain and restore ecological resilience
  • Integrating catchment and lake systems to improve restoration outcomes

THE AIM OF LERNZ

The aim of the LERNZ programme is to identify and remediate threats to lake ecosystems, to provide new tools for monitoring, management and assessment, and to communicate research findings to stakeholders.
