M Sc Student
Catherine Bryan is in her second year of an M Sc in urban restoration ecology. Her research is focussed on native epiphytes (plants that perch on other plants) and the water relations of Griselinia lucida; a very unique shrub epiphyte that is poorly understood. Catherine’s research has involved a summer in the forests of Waikato and New Plymouth (a comparison city); a physiological drought tolerance experiment on epiphyte seedlings and some incredible views from the tree tops! The outcomes of her research will include recommendations and guidelines to increase native biodiversity with the inclusion of epiphytes in urban restoration projects.
