Past Summer student
Nicholas Wu is examining the use of flooded terrestrial habitats by fish larvae in the lower Waikato. Fish larvae samples were collected using hoop-nets in various inundated floodplain habitats during spring and summer floods in 2010/2011. His work will evaluate the importance of lateral connectivity and flooding in recruitment of early life stages of both native and non-native fish. Therefore the results of his work will assist restoration aimed at maximising habitat availability for native fish and improved management of pest fish.
