Advanced Technician

After completing his MSc with first class honours on the ecophysiology of New Zealand mudfish Jeroen Brijs joined LERNZ as a research associate. He has conducted numerous pest fish surveys and eradications utilising Waikato University’s electro-fishing boat and has been extensively involved in stable isotope analysis, ageing and radio tracking of pest fish. As well as pest fish work Jeroen has been involved with the development of new technologies for the detection of the invasive algal species Didymosphenia geminata or didymo. His research interests include heavy metal bioaccumulation in the Rotorua lakes and environmental monitoring of lake restoration efforts. He also continues to take an active interest in the conservation of New Zealand’s threatened native mudfish species.
