Jonathan Banks

Senior Research Fellow

Jonathan’s research uses genetic data to investigate the identity species of animals and to characterise animal and bacterial communities. Currently, he is investigating the usefulness of genetics for taxonomy (who’s who) of Daphnia (water fleas), caddisflies, rotifers and other zooplankton species. He hopes that this research will result in methods that can quickly and cheaply characterise freshwater lake zooplankton communities and assess the effectiveness of the management techniques being used to control pest fish and algal blooms in lakes.
