Dr Joanne Clapcott
Coastal and Freshwater Resources, Cawthron Institute
Joanne has worked on developing ways to measure the ecosystem health of large rivers and was involved in a national survey of large rivers to assess macroinvertebrates and ecosystem function in response to land use. Joanne continues to work on understanding the function of small and large rivers by applying functional indicators, including ecosystem metabolism and organic matter breakdown, in studies throughout New Zealand. She is particularly interested in predictive modeling of river ecosystem health to help guide river management (e.g. conservation, rehabilitation, and resource allocation) at a regional and national level.
